Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding, Road Closures; Driver Rescued in High Water

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Montgomery County and surrounding jurisdictions on Thursday morning.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) officials say heavy rainfall has caused flooding in some areas. There are also reports of downed trees and wires. Residents are encouraged to use caution when driving on the roadways.

According to MCFS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, there was a water rescue on Beach Drive between Kensington Parkway and Connecticut Avenue near Chevy Chase on Thursday around 7:00 a.m. Rescue crews safely removed the driver from the vehicle that had become stalled in high-water.

In the tweet below, Piringer says Beach Drive has been closed due to the flooding.

MCFRS officials are reminding motorists to plan ahead due to road closures and to use caution when driving through areas that are flooded.
