Heat Continues Tuesday as County Issues Hyperthermia Alert
Montgomery County has issued a Hyperthermia Alert for Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m. The County issues an alert when forecasted temperatures, and/or heat index, is at least 95 degrees or higher.
County officials urge residents to take precautions to protect themselves, and their pets, against heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. County facilities, including libraries, swimming pools, recreation centers, senior centers, and regional services centers, are available to residents as cooling centers.
Young children, the elderly and pets should never be left in parked vehicles during hot weather.
During excessive heat, homeless shelters allow residents to return to the shelter after work or daytime activities. Outreach programs encourage unsheltered individuals to seek cool indoor locations. Residents concerned about the well-being of a homeless individual can call the County’s Homeless Information Line at 240-907-2688.
If you have a concern about the heat-related safety of a person or pet, call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
