Gas Leak Closes Portion of North Frederick Avenue
UPDATED A portion of North Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg was closed in both directions between Odenhal Avenue and Chestnut Street for less than an hour after a vehicle struck a gas meter at a building around 6 a.m. on June 4.
Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer said hazardous materials units responded to the scene, which was evacuated while adjacent buildings were checked. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
Piringer said the gas was turned off and, at 6:45 a.m., North Frederick Avenue was reopened.
