Gaithersburg Launches New Website Today
A new and improved City of Gaithersburg website launched today, offering what officials described as better organization and enhanced navigation capabilities. The web address remains the same, www.gaithersburgmd.gov.
Prominent images highlight programs, events and activities on a rotating carousel on the homepage, providing a visual reflection of what’s going on in the City on a daily basis. The homepage also emphasizes key initiatives such as online review of permits and plans, budget comment opportunities, and how to subscribe to e-mail services. Easy access to items most commonly requested, including meeting notifications, City projects, amenities, and employment information, as well as headline news and the City’s calendar of events, are highlighted.
In addition to visual appeal, the website has moved from a departmental model to a service model, allowing for more intuitive navigation. Calendar filtering options further enhance the experience, with the ability to filter by month and type of event. Significant changes also go beyond the desktop experience as the website upgrade incorporates responsive design, allowing it to be automatically formatted for a variety of devices including smartphones and tablets.
The integration of emergency notifications and social networking tools within the new website further connect users to up-to-the-minute information. Alert Gaithersburg updates will be prominently featured on the homepage. Twitter feeds and Facebook page links are displayed on appropriate content pages, and a media library is being constructed with select photos and YouTube videos.
While all of these new features are available on the new website, officials noted that it is still a work in progress, with additional enhancements coming soon.
