‘Free Space’ Exhibit at Kramer Gallery Features Installations by Bethesda Artists Akemi Maegawa and Jackie Hoysted
‘Free Space’ art exhibition at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery and Music Room in the Silver Spring Civic Building is on view July 6 through Sept. 7. Bethesda-based artists Akemi Maegawa and Jackie Hoysted collaborated to create a series of interactive installations that are open-ended and invite audience participation. The artists expect patrons to move pieces of the installations to create an endless number of new versions.
Artist Jackie Hoysted recently displayed her “Mix ‘n Match v2.0” at VisArts in Rockville, as described in a recent Washington Post article. The piece fills a wall with an array of brightly colored discs mounted with Velcro. Patrons are expected to move the discs around to create new designs.
The opening reception for the exhibit is Friday, July 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Kramer Gallery is housed on the first floor of the Silver Spring Civic Building, open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission to the gallery is free.
Parking is available in the parking garage across the street on Ellsworth Drive. The closest Metro station is the Silver Spring station on the Red Line.
