Five Things to Know for July 6 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know for Friday, July 6, in Montgomery County:

1. Family Reunification: The County Council posted a document to their Twitter account with information on ways to help families that have been detained at the border between the U.S. and Mexico.

2. East County Recreation Center status: The recreation center re-opens today after Thursday’s closure, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for drop-in programs and the senior nutrition program only. The Summer Fun Center located at the recreation center will be held at Paint Branch High School.

3. Purple Line Work: Demolition work near University Boulevard begins today and continues through July 10. The work takes place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

4. Art Walk in the Park: The Glen Echo Park Partnership hosts open studios and artist demonstrations in the Park’s many visual arts studios and galleries today from 6 to 8 p.m. Other activities in the Park include a free jazz concert and the Words out Loud monthly series which includes readings and an open mic session.

5. Free Space Exhibit Opening and Reception: An interactive art exhibit by two Bethesda-based artists, Akemi Maegawa and Jackie Hoysted, opens today at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery and Music Room in the Silver Spring Civic Building and is on display through Sept. 7. A reception open to the public takes place today from 6 to 8 p.m.
