1. Progress Place: The County Council’s Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to receive an update on the construction of the new Progress Place today. According to the background information, the center is scheduled to be complete by year’s end. Also on the H&HS Committee’s agenda: an update on the homeless population in Silver Spring.
2. New Turf Field: Somerset Elementary School is celebrating the opening of its new synthetic turf field. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the school’s annual back to school picnic on Sunday.
3. Debate Watch Party: Montgomery County Democrats are holding a presidential Debate Watch Party at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center tonight in Silver Spring while Republicans are watching at Lahinch Tavern and Grill in Potomac.
4. Superintendent’s Message: In a video posted online, Dr. Jack Smith is stressing the importance of talking with students about race and civility. Tonight, the Montgomery County Board of Education meets, and one of the items on the agenda is an update on the Choice Study.
5. Drum Circle: Bring the family to the Aspen Hill Library tonight from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. and make some music.
