Here are five things to know today, Jan. 16, in Montgomery County:
1. It’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Here’s a look at what’s open and what’s not in Montgomery County.
2. In Gaithersburg, volunteers are joining Montgomery Serves and Seneca Creek Community Church from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. to complete more than a dozen service projects that will benefit the most vulnerable in our community. There are similar day of service projects taking place today in North Bethesda, Germantown and Silver Spring.
3. In Rockville, the 45th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration entitled, a “Modern Day Dream,” takes place at 10 a.m. at Richard Montgomery High School.
4. In Silver Spring, a documentary about the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. is being screened at 11 a.m. at the AFI Silver Theatre, 8633 Colesville Road. Free tickets will be distributed at 10:30 a.m., there is a limit of four tickets per customer.
5. The Music Center at Strathmore hosts a birthday tribute and celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today at 3:30 p.m. in North Bethesda. The multicultural program is free, and includes performances and community awards.
