Five Things to Know Today, Jan. 12, in Montgomery County

fivethingsyouneedtoknowThe National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory until 9 a.m. today and the State Highway Administration is urging motorists to delay or cancel early morning travel today. Here are five more things to know today, Jan. 12, in Montgomery County:

1. Montgomery County Public Schools are opening two hours late today because of the weather. Montgomery County government and federal agencies in the Washington, D.C. area are also opening late today.

2. Police have scheduled a 10 a.m. news conference for today to discuss the status of the missing Lyon sisters case. The girls were reported missing from Wheaton nearly 40 years ago. The news conference will be streamed live here.

3. This week, the Montgomery County Ride On bus system rolls out improvements on 25 routes upgrading service for thousands of riders.

4. County leaders are scheduled to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) food distribution facility today.
