Here are five things to know today, Feb. 8, in Montgomery County:

1. In Silver Spring, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and County Council President Roger Berliner will hold a news conference at 3:30 p.m. to discuss the next steps for immigration in Montgomery County.

2. In Gaithersburg, city leaders are swearing-in Yvette Monroe as the newest Council member. Monroe takes the oath of office at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Chambers and a reception will follow in the City Hall Gallery.

3. In Germantown, the Metros swimming and diving competition takes place at the Indoor Swim Center today thru Saturday. The swim center resumes normal operations on Sunday, Feb. 12.

4. Do you like cozying up to a campfire and enjoying some s’mores? Then don’t miss Cozy Community Day from 4 – 6 p.m. at Ellsworth Urban Park and Dog Park in Silver Spring.

5. It’s movie night at the Praisner Library in Burtonsville. You can watch Annie at 6:30 p.m. at the library and it’s free.

Keep your eye on the sky: there may be some snow in the forecast overnight. A winter storm watch has been issued for northern Maryland.
