Five Things to Know Today, Aug. 3, in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Aug. 3, in Montgomery County:

1. Minimum Wage: County Executive Ike Leggett described a new report about the impacts of a $15 an hour minimum wage as “sobering.” The County Council is scheduled to discuss the report on Sept. 19.

2. On the Campaign Trail: David Trone, the founder and owner of Total Wine and More,  has announced that he is running for the Maryland 6th District seat that Congressman John Delaney is leaving to run for president. You may remember that Trone, a Democrat, ran for the Maryland 8th District seat last year and lost. The 2018 Gubernatorial Primary Election is set for June 26, 2018.

3. Lake Needwood Boats: Montgomery Parks officials have announced that Lake Needwood Boats is closed indefinitely as the high water from last week’s flooding rains begins to recede and the cleanup at Rock Creek Regional Park continues.

4. Fall Fun: The new Fall Guide of classes and programs is scheduled to arrive this week at local libraries, recreation centers and county facilities.

5. Summer Concert:  The Silver Spring concert series continues from 7 – 9 p.m. at Veterans Plaza with the Moxie Blues Band.
