Here are five things to know today, Aug. 18, in Montgomery County:

1. What Ends Saturday: Today is the day before Shop Maryland Tax Free Week ends and the day before the Montgomery County Ag Fair ends.

2. Clear the Shelters: Tomorrow is also “Clear the Shelters” day at the Montgomery County Animals Services and Adoption Center.

3. Nothing but a Hound Dog: The Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center in Silver Spring has Elvis karaoke from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

4. Batman Picks Up the Pieces: The Lego Batman Movie will be displayed as part of Silver Spring’s free outdoor movie series. The movie starts at 8 p.m. at the Silver Spring Veterans Plaza.

5. Police Candidates: The application process is now open for police officer candidates. Applicants have until Aug. 25.
