Five Things to Know for Sept. 28 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Sept. 28, in Montgomery County, Maryland:

1. Purple Line Update: The Montgomery County Council’s Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment (T&E) Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. to receive an update from Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP) and the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA).

2. Public Hearing: The Maryland Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing tonight at the County Council Office Building for a proposed merger of Washington Gas’ parent company, WGL Holdings, Inc., and AtlaGas, Ltd.

3. Keeping America Competitive: Former Lockheed Martin CEO, Norman Augustine, is expected to discuss STEM education and its role in keeping America competitive at 3 p.m. Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus in Science Center West, Room 301.


4. Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Transportation Safety Advisory Committee Meeting: Residents are invited to provide input on the revised “Vision Zero Plan,” during tonight’s meeting at Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring. Vision Zero’s mission: No traffic deaths by 2030 in Montgomery County. Meeting begins at 7 p.m.

5. New Crosswalks in White Flint: Check out the new crosswalks unveiled in White Flint. These new crosswalks are a part of a larger project, the White Flint Sector Plan, which includes improving the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
