Five Things to Know for Sept. 19 in Montgomery County

Here’s your daily rundown of what’s happening today, Sept. 19, in Montgomery County, Maryland:

1. Public Hearing on Discharge of Bows: The Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing today at 1:30 p.m. regarding Expedited Bill 30-17, Weapons – Discharge of Bows – Amendments. This would reduce the safety zone for archery hunters in the county; and generally amend the laws governing the discharge of bows.

2. Small Cell Community Meeting: Public hearing to discuss the county’s draft of a zoning text amendment (ZTA) to revise the County’s zoning code to address deployment of smaller antennas on streetlights and lower height buildings. The meeting will be held at Montgomery College Germantown Campus and begins at 7 p.m.

3. Hispanic Heritage Festival: Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon and learn about Hispanic traditions, beautiful costumes and dances. Enjoy music with a DJ, watch the costume parade, and snack on ethnic food. The event will be held be at the Holiday Party Senior Center in Wheaton from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

4. Pop-up Recess: Little Pop Up Recess for kids 6 & younger at Caroline Freeland Urban Park in Bethesda.

5. Talk Like a Pirate Day: Ahoy, mateys! Stop by t’ Museum for a special afternoon o’ pirate-y doin’s as the Gaithersburg Community Museum celebrates International Talk Like a Pirate Day from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
