1. Vigil: The candlelight vigil for Shadi Najjar and Artem Ziberov, the two teenagers gunned down in Montgomery Village, takes place at 7:30 p.m. at Northwest High School, and the community is invited.
2. Public Safety: The Montgomery County Council’s Public Safety Committee meets to discuss recruitment and diversity initiatives. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Seventh Floor hearing room in the Council Office Building in Rockville.
3. SafeTrack: Metro will close the Shady Grove and Rockville stations Saturday for nine days of rehab for the tracks leading to and from the station. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation has a website full of transit alternatives; find it here.

5. Juneteenth: Montgomery County’s Juneteenth Celebration starts at 6 p.m. at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. Organizers plan an event with entertainment, inspiration, education and good food. The event commemorates June 19-1865 – the day Union Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger officially declared that the institution of slavery was dead. His announcement came after the official issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln.
