Five Things to Know for June 21 in Montgomery County

Today is the summer solstice, the longest day and shortest night in the Northern Hemisphere and considered the first day of summer. Here are five more things to know for Thursday, June 21, in Montgomery County

1. Marriott’s New Headquarters:  Marriott executives, Governor Hogan, County Executive Leggett and others will celebrate the groundbreaking of  Marriott’s new headquarters and hotel at 9:30 a.m. in downtown Bethesda. Marriott will host a pop-up root beer stand following the ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

3. Coffee with a Cop: Montgomery County Police Department’s 4th District (Wheaton) will host coffee with a cop from 8 to 9:30 a.m. inside the Westfield Wheaton Target store. Residents and police can enjoy a cup of coffee and informal conversation.

4. Small Business Network: Entrepreneur Anik Singal is the featured speaker at today’s small business networking session facilitated by Kelly Leonard. Doors open at 8 a.m., so there is still time to attend.

5. Youth Media Summer Camp: There are still openings in our popular Green Screen camp for youth ages 11-14. Campers learn to create a television show in our state of the art green screen tv studio. Students completing the camp are certified as a MCM Studio Technician and are then eligible to crew on community productions at MCM. Learn more and register, here.
