Five Things to Know for July 30 in Montgomery County

Here are five things you need to know for Monday, July 30, in Montgomery County:

1. Turf War: Because it has so little land, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School is considering artificial turf for its football field. The Montgomery County Board of Education takes up the proposal at its meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville. Here’s the staff memo on the proposal.

2. That Line About Fences and Neighbors: Fencing, a competitive sport of finesse, skill, strategy and endurance, offers children and teens a positive physical activity, and is often called “physical chess” for its strategic and mental challenges. The D.C. Fencing Club, 9330 Fraser Ave., Silver Spring, offers weeklong fencing camps for beginners through advanced fencers. Facebook has the details.

3. Watch the Birdie: If fencing isn’t your thing, the Capital Badminton Academy has camps in Gaithersburg at 7518 Lindbergh Drive.

4. It’s a Toss Up: Still need a distraction? The Greene Turtle has cornhole on Mondays.

5. ICYMI: MCM’s Mitti Hicks took a tour of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.
