Here are five things to know for Thursday, Dec. 14, in Montgomery County:
1. Funeral Services for Off-Duty Officers: The funerals for two officers who were tragically killed in a car incident on I-270 will be laid to rest today.
2. Traffic Delays: The Maryland State Police said traffic delays should be expected from 7 a.m. to early afternoon during the funeral of Deputy Chief State Fire Marshal Sander Cohen.
3. Legislative Breakfast: The Committee for Montgomery is hosting its annual legislative breakfast at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. The Gubernatorial candidates for next year’s midterm election are expected to be in attendance.
4. Bethesda Blast: Weather and work conditions permitting, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will conduct a single controlled blast beneath Rockville Pike (MD 355) near the Medical Center Metro Station, NIH and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Naval Support Activity between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM. This blast had previously been scheduled for Dec. 12.
5. Thoughts on MCPS?: The NAACP Parents’ Council is inviting residents to join them in a conversation with Superintendent Dr. Jack Smith to voice any questions or concerns about Montgomery County Public Schools System.
