Here are five things you need to know for Thursday, Aug. 9, in Montgomery County:

1. Power Women: The Power Conference: Women Doing Business runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Road.

2. Lunchtime Music Break: Bill Vaughan performs as part of the Silver Spring Lunchtime Lounge series from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on the Fountain Plaza Stage, 916 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring.

3. Community Dance: The arts organization Carpe Diem leads a community dance on the second Thursdays of each month from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building. No experience is required. Each session starts at 7 p.m. with a 30-minute lesson, and then dances are “called” from 7:30-10 p.m.

4. Summer Concerts: Soul Crackers closes out the Silver Spring Summer concert series at Veterans Plaza from 7-9 p.m. The United States Marine Band Free Country perform at Glen Echo Park in the Bumper Car Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
