Man Charged with Arson in Rockville House Fire (PHOTOS & VIDEOS)

UPDATED Nov. 20, 4:30 p.m. According to investigators, it was an arsonist that ignited a two-alarm house fire in the 300 block of Horners Lane in Rockville on Wednesday. Officials said damages are estimated to be in excess of $400,000.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer said investigators have charged Carlos Peralta with first degree arson and three counts of reckless endangerment in this case.

As you heard, the fire has displaced the six occupants of the house and the Red Cross is assisting them with housing.

UPDATED, Nov. 20, 12 p.m. –  Carlos Peralta is charged with setting fire to the Rockville  home where he lived with five other people.

According to an online judicial case search, Peralta, 27, faces first-degree arson  and reckless endangerment charges. According to the search of online records, Peralta faces malicious destruction charges stemming from a separate case earlier this month in Prince George’s County.

UPDATED, Nov. 19, 5:14 p.m.– Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer reports on his Twitter account that a person of interest has been arrested in connection with today’s house fire. No other information has been released.

UPDATED, Nov. 19, 3:45 p.m. – Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer estimates the fire on South Horners Lane caused about $400,000 worth of damage.

Piringer tweeted information that the cause was “suspicious” and still under investigation.

According to Piringer, the Red Cross is helping six occupants of the home with housing.

Montgomery County firefighters are investigating what sparked a house fire this afternoon in the 300 block of South Horners Lane in Rockville.

Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer said about 75 firefighters were called to battle the blaze, which engulfed much of the two-story structure.

On his Twitter account, Piringer said no injuries were reported.

Motorists may encounter road closures in the area of Baltimore Road, East Middle Lane and North Horners Lane, according to Piringer, as firefighters remain on the scene today.
