Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Potomac

policeambulancesUPDATED 10 p.m. on 8.27.14 Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred on August 27 in Potomac.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. at River Road and Rivers Edge Drive.

According to a police account, a 2014 Honda NC700 motorcycle was traveling south on River Road and a 2011 BMW X5 was traveling north on River Road. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that the BMW attempted to make a left turn onto Rivers Edge Drive and collided with the motorcycle.

Police said witnesses to the collision stopped and administered first aid to the motorcyclist who was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said the motorcyclist died at the hospital from his injuries.

The operator of the BMW was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have identified the motorcyclist as Navdeep Singh Kang, age 25, of Sewickley, Pennsylvania. The driver of the SUV is identified by police as Ritula Bhutani Mehndiratta, age 46, of Potomac.

The circumstances of this collision remain under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620. Callers may remain anonymous.

This is the second fatal motorcycle collision this week in Montgomery County.
