Fatal Car Crash in Gaithersburg
Montgomery County police are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred Sunday evening in Gaithersburg.
According to police, shortly before 7 p.m. on Jan. 19, officers and fire rescue units responded to the report of an accident at Quince Orchard Road and Quince Orchard Boulevard.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates a silver Acura TL was traveling on Quince Orchard Boulevard and turning left to eastbound Quince Orchard Road at a green traffic light. According to police, a silver 1999 Dodge Durango was traveling westbound on Quince Orchard Road approaching a red traffic light at Quince Orchard Boulevard. Police said the Dodge Durango struck the Acura in the intersection.
The driver of the Acura TL, identified as Bok Sun Kim (67) of West Side Drive in Gaithersburg, was ejected from the vehicle and she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the Dodge Durango, identified as Jared Lee Fondren (41) of American Fork, Utah, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.
