2012 World of Montgomery Festival

The World of Montgomery Festival Oct. 20 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. in Wheaton Plaza parking lot between Metro and JCPenney, 11160 Veirs Mill Road. The festival celebrates the diverse cultural heritages that play an active role in the lives of area residents. The festival showcases this rich diversity through food, music, dance, traditional arts and hands-on projects for children and families. The exhibits include culturally authentic arts demonstrations and activities aimed at promoting international and multi-cultural awareness. The free festival takes place rain or shine.

This year’s festival focuses on the “Essentials of Life” including food, water, culture and community service. Montgomery County is a modern-day global village, with one third of the population born outside of the United States. The diversity of the DC area enriches the lives of our children and helps them to become successful 21st global citizens. The World of Montgomery Festival celebrates this stunning diversity and invites you and your family to learn more about the many wonderful cultures that surround us every day.

Parade of Cultures and Performances on Two Stages:

  • A Parade of Cultures will showcase dancers and musicians in native dress from a wide variety of international backgrounds at 1:30 p.m.
  • There are two performance stages featuring traditional and non-traditional cultural performances including Drum Call, a ten piece, rhythmic African dance and drumming troupe led by Master drummaker Baile McKnight, a dragon dance team from the Chinese Culture and Community Service Center, Banda Al Pulgarcito a Cachiporristas group, Bollywood, Kuchipudi, Bharata Natyam and other forms of Indian Dance, and so much more.

Parking and Metro Access: Free parking is available nearby. Participants may also take the Metro to the Wheaton station, which is located two blocks away from the festival grounds.

The festival is organized by Fund for Montgomery and KID Museum.

Visit World of Montgomery website for more information.
