Elrich Town Hall Will Address Reopening Challenges for Child Care

County Executive Marc Elrich is hosting a virtual town hall Monday night for child care providers. Elrich is planning on answering questions and providing information about supporting early child care education as the county prepares to reopen its over 1,300 child care programs.

The town hall comes in the wake of the Montgomery County Council’s approval of a $10 million emergency relief fund for child care centers impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The recovery program will aim to offset reopening expenses and losses related to COVID-19.

Elrich will be joined by Maryland State Department of Education’s Assistant State Superintendent Steven Hicks, County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles and Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Caroline Sturgis. The town hall will also be moderated by Jennifer Arnaiz, manager of the County’s Child Care Resource and Referral Center.

As Montgomery County enters Phase 2 of its economic reopening, childcare providers are expected to face unique challenges maintaining social distancing among young children.

The town hall will run from 6 to 7 p.m. via Zoom. Child care providers are encouraged to register on the Montgomery County website.
