Elrich Joins Fauci at National Cathedral to Promote Vaccine to Faith Communities
County Executive Marc Elrich joined Dr. Anthony Fauci at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday to promote confidence in the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines to faith-based communities.
During the event, 25 interfaith clergy members from around the Washington, D.C. area were publicly vaccinated on camera.

The event featured remarks from Fauci — who is the chief medical advisor to the president and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — as well as from Dr. Francis Collins, the director of National Institute of Health in Bethesda.

Elrich shared a photo of himself with Fauci on Twitter, calling Fauci “the most famous employee in Montgomery County.”
“Honored to meet Dr. Fauci at an event sponsored by .@NIH and the Washington National Cathedral encouraging people of faith to get vaccinated. We have a @MontgomeryCoMD faith leader getting his dose today. United amongst faiths will help us persevere,” Elrich tweeted.

The county executive also shared a photo where he and Fauci watched as Rev. Dr. Gareth Murray, vice president of Black Ministers Conference of Montgomery County, get his vaccination.

During his remarks, Fauci thanked all the faith leaders who received their vaccination, as well people planning to receive the vaccination.
“What you’re doing is not only protecting yourselves, your families, and your communities, but you’re being part of the important process of ending this terrible pandemic that has essentially immobilized our country and the world for the last year,” Fauci said.
