Elderly Chevy Chase Resident Killed While Riding Bike in Bethesda

police carAn 81-year-old man was killed while riding his three-wheeled recumbent bike in Bethesda today, according to a report from the Montgomery County Police Department.

The collision happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. at Little Falls Parkway and the Capital Crescent Trail.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that the bicyclist was traveling eastbound on the Capital Crescent Trail and was crossing Little Falls Parkway in the area of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2002 Mercedes E320 that was traveling southbound.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Police have identified the bicyclist as 81-year-old Ned Gaylin of Chevy Chase.

Police said the driver of the Mercedes, a 78-year-old man from Bethesda, was not injured.
