Dr. Gayles On Resignation: ‘Medical Decisions Are Not Based Upon What Are Politically Popular’

Montgomery County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles commented on his resignation during a virtual media briefing on Wednesday. Dr. Gayles alluded to political backlash as one of the factors that led to his decision to resign from his position.

Meanwhile, County Executive Marc Elrich publicly praised Dr. Gayles for his courage and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I want somebody who has the knowledge and courage of convictions that Dr. Gayles was able to demonstrate,” said Elrich during the briefing.

Dr. Gayles reflects on his service for the county and hints at his plans moving forward.
