Dept. of Economic Development Honors 15 Businesses (VIDEO)
The recipients of the 2015 Montgomery County Small Business Awards were announced today at the annual County event, held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, that celebrates and honors local small businesses.
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, along with Montgomery County Council President George Leventhal, Department of Economic Development Acting Director Sally Sternbach, Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development Benjamin Wu and District Director, U.S. Small Business Administration, Washington Metropolitan Area Office, Antonio Doss presented the awards and congratulated the recipients.
“Small businesses make up 95 percent of the companies in Montgomery County, and we are committed to supporting their efforts and recognizing their successes,” said Leggett. “Today is a chance to honor to the hard working men and women of this County who drive job growth and form the bedrock of our economic community.”

Bioscience Company of the Year – Sanaria
Cybersecurity Company of the Year – VariQ
Hospitality Company of the Year – Maryland Soccer Foundation/Maryland SoccerPlex
IT Company of the Year – e-Management
NonProfit of the Year – CollegeTracks
Retail Company of the Year – Christopher’s Hardware
Start Up Company of the Year – Elizarov Consulting
Veteran-Owned Company of the Year — Ascendant Program Services
Montgomery County Business Innovation Network Company of the Year – BlueNovo
Workforce Development Company of the Year – Congressional Bank
Small (1-10) Business of the Year – Rife International
Small (11-50) Business of the Year – United Solutions
Small (51-200) Business of the Year – Athena Consulting
Small Business Champions -Advanced Bioscience Laboratories, MedImmune
“This event is the perfect opportunity to showcase the outstanding companies we have in Montgomery County,” said Sternbach. “We’re home to a wide range of businesses from retail to government contractor, from agriculture to cybersecurity and believe our unique mix is the basis for our strength as a business community. “
This is the third year for the event. More than 350 attendees enjoyed networking, visited exhibits and heard the keynote speech by Danny Farrar, CEO and founder of SoldierFit.
