Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates Gather for Forum

Six Democratic candidates seeking to be the next Maryland governor will take part in a in a forum Saturday in Germantown. The event is hosted by United for Maryland PAC, a coalition of more than 30 grassroots organizations and activists that united and mobilized after the Women’s March in January 2017.

Topics include health care, the environment and education.

This is the first United for Maryland PAC gubernatorial forum, and subsequent forums will be spread across Maryland so that all Maryland residents have a chance to hear from the candidates.

The two-hour moderated forum begins at 2 p.m. A chance to meet and greet the candidates follows. The forum takes place at Globe Hall, Montgomery College Germantown Campus, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown.

Six declared Democratic candidates are expected: Rushern Baker, Ben Jealous, Kevin Kamenetz, Rich Madaleno, Alec Ross and Krishanti Vignarajah. Congressman Jamie Raskin will make closing remarks.

“Governor Hogan has not provided the leadership and protection Marylanders need and deserve,” said Betsy Halsey, founder and president of United for Maryland PAC, the group sponsoring the event. “We are excited to have these candidates on stage for the first time on Saturday to pry apart their positions and start to find out which is the best leader for Maryland.”
