Delaney Drops Out of Presidential Race

Former U.S. Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.) of Potomac has announced an end to his presidential campaign, days before the Iowa caucus.

Delaney released the following statement on Twitter Friday morning:

Delaney entered the presidential race in July 2017, nearly a year before his other competitors, but he failed to gain traction.

He hasn’t qualified for any of the Democratic debates since July 2019. For the two debates Delaney did qualify for, he was known for his criticism of Medicare for All and taking aim at Sen. Elizabeth Warren for making “impossible promises.”

In October, Delaney was interviewed on MyMCMedia’s Montgomery Talks podcast and said he thought the three Democratic primary frontrunners—former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Warren—are all vulnerable against President Donald Trump.

Delaney also said on the Montgomery Talks podcast that he had not considered running for governor of Maryland in 2022.
