Death Investigation Underway After Woman Found in Germantown House Fire

A woman was found dead after a townhouse caught fire in Germantown early Thursday morning.

Around 4:30 a.m. firefighters responded to the 12000 block of Birdseye Terrace near Middlebrook Road to find smoke coming from the roof. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services officials say the fire was quickly brought under control and a woman was found unresponsive in the second floor bedroom. MCFRS spokesperson Peter Piringer says the woman was removed from the townhome but she succumbed to her injuries.

Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, MCFRS officials say there were lots of furnishings and combustibles in the townhouse which was described as “hoarding conditions”.
Montgomery County fire investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. They are being assisted by Montgomery County police to conduct a joint death investigation.
