Day 3: Saluting Our Heroes at Quicken Loans National (PHOTOS)

The Quicken Loans National (QLN) as title sponsor for the Tiger Woods Foundation prides itself on its commitment to celebrating the men and women of the Armed Forces. During tournament week, over 30,000 military personnel are provided free admission. Throughout the course, you are reminded of the military ties to this area.

Perhaps the most visible example of the Armed Forces presence, and it’s union with golf fans, is the “We Salute Our Heroes” tribute wall that is located along the 18th fairway.

I have two other favorite locations at Congressional. The first is at the announcer’s area on the first tee where two chosen Armed Forces members will announce each pairing of golf pros along with the volunteer observers who follow the pros along the course each day. The second location is at the 17th green.

The military display at hole number 17 is by far the most poignant of all locations. On the 17th green, an Armed Forces member will stand guard on the green holding the U.S. Flag pin placement while the PGA TOUR pros putt. Most, if not all pros, will take the time during each round to walk over and shake the hand of that service member and thank him for his or her service.

Today, on Day 3, the Armed Forces were represented as follows: on the 1st Tee was Sgt. Chad Setser, of the Pentagon and E5 Jason Rynkiewitz, US Navy; on 17 was Lt. Kevin Undeck and Seaman Kevin Mulrose both of the U.S. Coast Guard.

On Sunday, should you attend the #QLNational and you have the chance opportunity to encounter a uniformed service member – shake their hand and thank them for their time and service.

Here are some patriotic photos for you to peruse as we head into the upcoming 4th of July holiday week.
