Damascus Family Displaced Following Basement Fire

A family has been displaced from their home in Damascus after the basement caught fire around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

The single-family home on 10200 Peanut Hill Dr off Newbury Road suffered significant damage, but no injuries were reported, MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer said in a tweet.

MCFRS Battalion Chief Jason Blake tweeted that the smoke detectors in the home alerted the family to the fire. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Neighbors have set up a GoFundMe page to support the family and help them recover. To donate click here.
