COVID-19 Update: 10% of County Residents are Fully Vaccinated

Montgomery County health officials reported Thursday that 10% of the county residents are fully vaccinated which means they have either received two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson single-dose vaccine.

The Maryland Department of Health reported 126 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Thursday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is currently 64,399.

Montgomery County recorded two new coronavirus-related fatalities Thursday, bringing the death toll to 1,392.

The county has a rolling seven-day average of 2.75% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is a decrease of 0.06 from Wednesday’s rate of 2.81%. The positivity rate is lower than the rate in 17 of the 24 Maryland jurisdictions. The county’s positivity rate has been below 3% for 16 days since Feb. 24.

With 1,392 COVID-19 related fatalities, Montgomery County leads the state in fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 74,851 cases and 1,322 fatalities.

Somerset County located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore has the most cases per capita cases in the state with 94.2 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 91.3 cases per 1,000 residents.

The Maryland Department of Health reported Thursday that 10.6% of Marylanders are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Of those vaccinated, 9.9% received two doses of either the Pizer or Moderna vaccines and 0.7% received the Johnson and Johnson single-dose vaccine.

Thursday the state recorded 924 new infections.  The state’s cumulative case count is now 390,490.

There are 788 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across the state as of Thursday morning.

Thursday the state reported 12 new deaths, bringing the state death toll to 7,832.

The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 3.58% for positive COVID-19 tests Thursday. This is a decrease of 0.03 from Wednesday’s rate of 3.61%. The state’s positivity has been below 4% for 18 days since Feb. 22.
