COVID-19 Rent Relief Program Helping Eligible Households

The county’s COVID-19 Rent Relief Program is providing short-term rental assistance to eligible households in need, and it’s not too late to apply.

The program will grant up to $4,000 to each household to help cover the cost for back rent or rent credit for future months. Although about 2,300 residents have applied so far, Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services officials say there is still room for additional capacity. The program is being funded through a $20 million supplemental appropriation.

“We estimate that with that $20 million, we’ll be able to help about 5,000 households,” said DHHS Deputy Chief for Services to End and Prevent Homelessness Ilana Branda.

A community outreach event was held on Thursday at the Cinnamon Run at Pepper Tree Farm apartment complex in Silver Spring to help some residents with the application process.

MyMCMedia was there and spoke with Branda:

Branda says more community outreach events are expected to take place at other “high impact” neighborhoods throughout the county soon.

Click here to complete the online application or call (240-777-0311) to complete a service request. DHHS officials say a caseworker will call you back to review your eligibility.
