County’s New Daily COVID-19 Cases Nearly Double Since Thursday
After seeing its number of new daily COVID-19 cases decline for six consecutive days, Montgomery County logged 107 new infections Friday. That’s almost double the number of new cases reported Thursday, according to Maryland Health Department data.
Since the first case was recorded in March, 18,139 county residents have contracted the virus.
The county recorded four new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the total to 762 since the pandemic started.
A majority of people who have died from COVID-19 in the county to date were aged 65 or above, according to demographic data updated by the Montgomery County Government on Friday.
White residents account for the most deaths out of any race or ethnicity but African Americans have the highest per-capita death rate, the county data shows — 88.3 deaths per 100,000 residents.
Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related deaths. Prince George’s County, however, has had over 5,200 more cases.
The state saw an increase of 801 cases on Friday, bringing the cumulative count since March to 93,806.
It was the second day in a row that the number of new daily cases was higher than the day before, following five days of decreases.
Every Friday there is a spike. Could it have anything’s ng to do with cumulative reporting stacking up at end of week? Do people naturally wait for end of week to get testing? There seems to be some sort of personal variable as it it so predictive.
