County Recognizes Hundreds of Foster Families During Annual Picnic
Montgomery County foster families provide care to more than 300 children each month, which is why county officials decided to recognize them for their contributions.
Hundreds of foster families gathered at High Point Catering on Wednesday to enjoy music, food and more.
“We do this to celebrate all of the hard work that our family and staff do in keeping our kids safe in foster homes,” Lisa Merkin, administrator for Child Welfare Services, said. “This is day-in and day out-hard work and this is one day where we can just say thank you.”
Aaron Pollard, who has been a foster parent for more than 18 years in Montgomery County, said he finds joy in loving children through a vulnerable time.
“It’s a great honor to serve and help,” Pollard said. “Often times, they have broken relationships with their biological parents that have to be mended and they just need someone to love them in between and to stand in the gap until things get better.”
Staff from Montgomery County’s Foster and Adoptive Services organized this 42nd annual event.
“We can never thank them [foster families] fully but this is all to say ‘we really appreciate you,'” Shari Zouhairi, supervisor of the foster and adoptive parent services, said.
