County Officials Rename Poolesville Library to Recognize Devoted Volunteer (VIDEO)

The Poolesville Library has a new name.  The library at 19633 Fisher Avenue is now known as the Maggie Nightingale Library, in recognition of a devoted volunteer and library advocate.

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett unveiled the library’s new name at a ceremony on Saturday. He was joined by the late Maggie Nightingale’s husband, Tom, her children and others.

“It is only fitting to name the library after Maggie Nightingale who served the Poolesville Library Advisory Committee and the library for many years,” said Leggett. “Maggie’s years of devotion and hard work benefitted generations of Poolesville residents.”

According to a county news release, Maggie moved to Poolesville in 1977. She served Poolesville in many different ways including working as a staff member with the Poolesville Chamber of Commerce, volunteering with her church, and working on the Poolesville Days Planning Committee.

Officials said it was Maggie’s passion for reading and her belief in the importance of lifelong learning that led her to the Library Advisory Committee.

“It is wonderful that we are able to rename the Poolesville Library to honor Maggie Nightingale,” said Parker Hamilton, director of the Montgomery County Public Libraries system. “Volunteers are one of MCPL’s most important resources and their hard work makes it possible to extend our libraries programs and services.”
