County Fire and Rescue ‘Actively Engaged’ in Rescue Operations in Louisiana

43 area fire and rescue personnel are searching for Louisiana residents who were displaced due to the fierce Hurricane Ida.

Most of the crew members are from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue with others from Howard and Prince Georges’ County as well as a few civilians, said MCFR Battalion Chief Kelvin Thomas, Deputy Training Officer Command Development Training Coordinator.

The crew was deployed Monday evening. “They are actively searching, assisting people as need,” he said. “They are actively engaged. They are very busy.”

The personnel brought with them 23 pieces of equipment, including eight boats. They are stationed in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Gov. Larry Hogan tweeted that he “reached out to Louisiana Gov John Edwards to offer our full support and assistance in response to Hurricane Ida.”
