County Executive Leggett Welcomes Alan Gross Home

Ike Leggett PortraitMontgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett released the following statement about the release of Alan Gross:

“I am delighted by the release of Montgomery County resident Alan Gross by the Cuban government.

“As I and many others have said in the past, he should never have been arrested in the first place. His only ‘crime’ was lending a hand to the Cuban people.

“Today, his release has come. What a wonderful Hannukah present!

“I strongly support President Obama’s decision to normalize relations between the United States and Cuba. That normalization is long overdue and will benefit both the Cuban and American people. We are neighbors. We should be friends, not enemies. Now we have that chance again.

“Welcome home, Alan Gross. Congratulations to his family and to all those others who have fought so hard to win his freedom.”
