County Department of Health to Distribute COVID-19 Kits to Hard-Hit Neighborhoods
Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced it is delivering nearly 4,000 coronavirus emergency kits to neighborhoods that have been disproportionately affected by the spread of COVID-19.
DHHS said in a statement that the following three zip codes are heavily affected: 20902, the Wheaton-Glenmont area, which, over the past 14 days, has seen an average of 36.3 daily cases per 100,000 residents; 20904, the Colesville area, which has an average of 35.2 daily cases per 100,000 residents; and 20906, the Aspen Hill/Layhill area, which has an average of 37.5 daily new cases per 100,000 residents. The kits have been prepared by public health staffers and include hand sanitizer, alcohol wipes, gloves, tissues, masks, non-contact infrared thermometers, and batteries.
Here’s where and when the kits will be distributed:
- Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hughes United Methodist Church in Wheaton.
- Thursday, Dec. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oak Chapel United Methodist Church in Silver Spring.
- Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the East County HUB at East County Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring.
Items in the prepared kits were paid for by funding the county government secured through the Office of Minority Health at Maryland Department of Health.
