County Council Presents Proclamation Recognizing Holocaust Remembrance Day (VIDEO)
To honor the legacy and lives lost during the Holocaust, the Montgomery County Council proclaimed April 24 as Holocaust Remembrance Day in a special ceremony during the council’s meeting early Tuesday.
“All residents are urged to rededicate themselves to not bear themselves silently to injustice and to always remain vigilante to the principles of a just society,” Councilmember Sidney Katz said during the presentation.
Ron Halber, executive director for the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington joined the Council to accept the award. The JCRC will host a community wide Holocaust commemoration ceremony on April 23 at the Washington Hebrew Congregation’s Julia Bindeman Suburban Center located at 11810 Falls Road in Potomac.
This year’s theme is titled, “Displaced Persons-Struggles to Find a Home.” In addition to music, poetry and a memorial candle lighting, those in attendance will hear from keynote speaker Marsha Tishler and her experience in a displaced persons camp.
