Councilmembers Want More Info About State’s Plan to Reduce Congestion on I-270

The Montgomery County Council wants more information about the state’s plan to reduce congestion along the I-270 corridor and they are asking state leaders to do more.

In a letter dated April 18 and addressed to Governor Larry Hogan and Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn, all nine council members request “technical documentation” about the I-270 Innovative Congestion Management Project. Specifically, the council members want to know how much travel time will be saved in each segment of I-270, and they request information about noise increases and properties that may be acquired as part of the project.

The local leaders also want assurances that the I-270 project won’t hinder progress of more extensive improvements, including the Corridor Cities Transitway, HOT lanes on I-270 between Shady Grove and Frederick County, and an increase in the frequency and capacity of the MARC Brunswick Line service.

Council President Roger Berliner delivered the letter personally to Governor Hogan on April 19th.
