Councilmember Jawando Calls for Increased Police Presence at Mosques During Ramadan
Councilmember Will Jawando calls for the police to increase security at mosques during Ramadan, which is the Muslim holy month. Ramadan begins the evening of Sunday, May 5 and continues through Tuesday, June 4. The Muslim community has contacted Jawando to express concerns following the recent anti-Semitic and anti-Islamic attacks in San Diego and New Zealand.
In a letter to Acting Police Chief Russell Hamill, Jawando says, “After hearing directly from local Islamic leaders, I urge the Montgomery County Police Department to substantially increase security of our area mosques during this holy month.”
