Council Approves Limited Number of Spectators at Sporting Events
The Montgomery County Council unanimously agreed on Friday to allow two spectators for each athlete, up to a maximum of 50 people, at sporting events as long as those spectators are in an area with a barrier between them and the athletes and coaches. The new recommendations take effect on April 2 at 5 p.m.
If a school requests permission to welcome a crowd of more than 50 people, the county health officer can allow that, as long as there is enough room to ensure “reasonable” safety for all participants.
The regulations are an additional to the council’s March 19 decision that allowed the already-shortened three-game football season to be held. According to the guidelines, players must wear masks (under their football face masks), participate in contact tracing and observe social distancing as much as possible.
Montgomery County is the only jurisdiction in Maryland with confirmed cases of all three primary variants.
As of Friday, many businesses can open up their facilities to 25% capacity. This includes amusement parks, bingo halls, go-kart tracks, roller skating rinks, social clubs, theaters that show movies or have live performances, trampoline parks. The council said it plans to update it’s guidance later Friday about indoor dining.
A select number of fans will be able to attend sporting events beginning next week. https://t.co/RLyLe2B7sX
