Council Advertises Administrator Position

The Montgomery County Council has begun advertising for a replacement for Steve Farber, the council administrator who’s leaving in February.

Farber has been with the council for 26 years and has served seven councils.

The council administrator serves as a principal adviser to the council, helping to develop and carry out the council’s policies.

The council seeks an expert in local government, according to a job description for the position. The person also must develop “technically sound and creative approaches to policy issues.” Candidates must have demonstrated leadership for a large staff, and maintain effective working relations with elected and appointed officials.

The administrator ensures the council completes its work program on time. The position also oversees a council staff of 75 and manages a budget of $11.7 million. The administrator also represents the council on several county boards, including the investment boards of the county’s retirement plans.

Salary for the position starts at $180,000 and includes county benefits. Applications will close on Sept. 12.
