Confederate Statue at New Home in White’s Ferry (VIDEO)

The Confederate statue that had been on the grounds of the Red Brick Courthouse in Rockville was relocated Tuesday morning to the White’s Ferry.

The same crane company that lifted the statue and its granite pedestal from Rockville lowered the pedestal and the statue onto its new location. A concrete pad already had been poured for the statue.

Eventually, a wrought-iron fence will surround the statue.

R. Edwin Brown, whose family operates the ferry, said he was very happy to have the statue at White’s Ferry.

  • This close to the Potomac, rising water can be a danger, as noted on the marks along the exterior wall of the White’s Ferry Restaurant and Store.

  • The statue will face west, toward Virginia, and toward the ferry as it crosses the Potomac from Maryland to Virginia and back again.
