Collision in Germantown: One Fatality, Four Serious Injuries

Montgomery County Police Department is investigating a fatal collision early Sunday morning in Germantown that took the life of one driver and sent four people to the hospital with serious injuries.

Resham Lal, 51, of Germantown, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.

According to MCPD detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit, Lal was making a left turn on Plummer Drive from northbound Frederick Road when it collided with a 2013 Toyota Scion FR-S that was traveling south on Frederick Road. The Toyota left the road and struck a carport and a 2015 Nissan Rogue that was parked in the driveway of the residence in the 19900 block of Plummer Drive.

The carport caught fire.

Police rescued the driver of the Toyota, Oscar Joaquin Villata Ruiz, 25, of Germantown, and his three passengers. The passengers included two 14-year-old females and one 20-year-old female. They were taken to local hospitals with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The incident occured at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
