UPDATED: Clarksburg Middle Schooler Competes in National Spelling Bee
UPDATED, May 28, 5 p.m. – Raffae Aman Chowdhury of Clarksburg did not make it to the semifinal round in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

ORIGINAL – He’s speller number 103.
His name is Raffae Aman Chowdhury. He’s a sixth-grader at Rocky Hill Middle School in Clarksburg. He’s 11. And today he’s a Scripps National Spelling Bee contestant.
It is one of the most prestigious educational contests in the country and it kicked off this week at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor. Preliminary rounds were Tuesday and again today with semifinals set for Thursday morning and afternoon and the championships of the competition scheduled for Thursday night.
His principal Cynthia Eldridge said Raffae has been excited and preparing for the contest with the help of some of the teachers at the school.
“He is so excited about this. He’s been studying every day and meeting with teachers to learn root words,” Eldridge told MyMCMedia.
According to his Bee profile, Raffae dreams of visiting Japan, the birthplace of many of his hobbies. He loves to read manga, create origami, and play video games on the Nintendo with his friends and his sister. Raffae trains in Tae Kwon Do, plays catcher on his baseball team, and participates in STEM Club at his school, where he got to build and launch a rocket.
