Churchill Takes Command in MSHL Hockey League

Churchill High School secured command of the Maryland Student Hockey Leagues (MSHL) rebounding after their lost to Blair by defeating long time rival Wootton High, 4-2, in Rockville Friday night.

The Bulldogs 18th win of the season came at the expense of the Patriots who for two periods stood toe to toe with Churchill.  However, the Patriots were stymied by the Churchill defense and a number of killer penalties during the 3rd period.  Churchill was able to take advantage on one of their man up sequences to tie the score at 2 apiece then rapidly put up two more goals to take the lead 4-2.

Churchill, for the evening, had 34 shots on goal as compared to only 23 for Wootton.  Wootton’s starter goalie Colin Brick left the game early after a pile up in goal that resulted on Churchill’s first score from John Taylor.  Freshman Riley Jordan filled in for Brick for the remainder of the game allowing the final 3 goals, one each for Jack Valas, Adian Martin and Jack Comer.

In the MSHL Winston Churchill leads the Montgomery 1 Division with a 13-1 (18-2-0, overall) record holding the top position over second place Thomas Wootton with a record of 10-3 (10-3-1, overall).
